THE PROCESS

These one-of-a-kind quilts are a collaborative process between the artist and a select group of dedicated women who maintain the increasingly rare tradition of hand-quilting.

Each quilt is constructed using 100% cotton fabrics and thread. The batting is low-loft washable wool.

Each quilt is designed and constructed by the artist to function both as a work of art and a working quilt. Production of a quilt takes anywhere from three to six months to complete.

The undulating landscape of the rural Midwest supplies fertile design and color inspiration. Befitting the artist's own German heritage, the quilts are anchored in the region's agricultural work ethic.

For I love forms beyond my own and regret the borders between us.

August 31-October 15, 2017, Rerum Novarum; Monte Pearson Gallery, Pearson Lakes Art Center, Lake Okoboji, Iowa

Pearson Lakes Art Center, Lake Okoboji, Iowa I have the pleasure of working with the PLAC on my first solo show, Rerum Novarum (of new things).  I will exhibit a total of 8 quilts, 4 of which have never been publicly exhibited, including the  debut of  Poppy Field  (8'x21' colossal-scale quilt).  The exhibit will also include my 6'x8' self portrait  Face of a Stranger .  Opening & artist talk: Thursday August 31, 2017 5-7pm. The Monte Pearson gallery is a beautiful space for the Rerum Novarum exhibit.  I am inspired by the namesake's hand-written statement which is posted just inside the gallery: "It will be the artists who lead the final revolution - a revolution within each person's soul - until we realize that freedom is not something which is fought for, but something which is found in trusting and loving - as we trust and love each other - we've all got to find that freedom within ourselves to create - to tell them all - let them see the mas

photo credit:  Le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork I am excited to have been invited to have a solo show at the 24th Annual  Le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork  in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, France.  I will be exhibiting nine quilts and presenting my video A Piece of Me on Saturday, September 15 at 2pm.  It is a great honor and I am looking forward to what will be my first solo show in Europe.   Le Carrefour Européen du Patchwork  takes place throughout five quaint villages in eastern France very near the German border. As an adopted child, my inner life was full of fantasy and musing about my origins.  I loved the movie Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory , especially the scene where Charlie blasts through a glass skylight in flight over terracotta rooftops of a German village.  The scene stirred my imagination, interest in my own German heritage, and my desire to someday see those very red rooftops myself.  In the subsequent 40 years I never made it to Europe, until now.  I can't
